Please excuse that I write in English. I have been visiting Europe since 1962, and have seen the population changes as something negative for the « old » Europe, and something like a catalyst for development for the « new » Europe,( Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, etc.)

Even an « old » country such as Italy has lost many of their men age 18 to 50 who have moved to Germany and Scandinavia to work and to marry there and settle. Both Portugal and Italy lack enough marriagable men for their young women.

The first obvious problem is geography because Europe is too small to absorb an influx into « old » Europe, coming from « new » Europe, without social disruption and a decline in the quality of life. To take the revenue produced by Germany, France, Holland, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria and use this to spport all the poor people of « new » Europe will mean a lower standard for the citizens of « old » Europe, as the money flows from their pockets. On the other hand it is a humanitarian gesture to improve the quality of life of your neighbors... The social disruption is very obvious as it takes many generations for the new immigrants to be gracefully accepted. During this period there will always be some discontent.

The most dangerous notion is to accept Turkey, with wretched treatment of women and minorities, an Islamist nation, into Europe. If this happens, Europe is finished as we know her.

Sadly, the European Union should have asked these questions 15 years ago and then they could have gently absorbed one country every ten years. But not a large number simultaneously. There is no place on this Earth with Europe’s culture and beauty, and once it is gone, it can never be replaced.

Something new will emerge one day...some sort of vast melting pot, such as we have in the States, but something very precious will be gone forever !

And in the meantime, the developed nations will carry the poorer ones on their backs !
